I thought it was a little bit strange when the author started to talk about 4 other survivalists who died. I didn’t really see a point in doing that and I thought it was just a filler. When it became very popular that a man died in Alaska and hundreds tried to call saying that they knew him, were hundreds of people really joking or did they actually know him? I thought it was funny when Chris wrote down his name “none of your damn business” and his social security was “I forgot.” It was really weird that Chris came from a rich family, but I predicted that earlier. I did not think that he would be a very talented student with many other talents and skills. I think it was important to know that his grandfather was a hunting guide and that helped with his hunting skills and decisions. It was also a little shocking how helpful he is to less fortunate like the homeless. I dont understand why he didn’t want to go to college if he was so smart and had so much talent for sports.

I actually enjoyed reading “Into The Wild” so far. When I first read it, I was confused and thought that Alex and McCandless were two different people and didn’t understand the story as well. Now I understand that they are different people. I also think that it is very important that “Alex” is very anti-government. He became very irritated after hearing anything that was government related. I think that Alex is an important name and there is a reason for McCandless choosing that name. Is there a reason why he wants to go to Alaska specifically? I like reading this story because it is a book that I find easy to read and the plot is intriguing.

I do not understand the plan Tom and Huck devised in the beginning of chapter 33. I don’t understand why Huck thinks that Tom is lowering himself in order to save Jim. I understand how he sees how rescuing Jim would be looked down on, but how is Tom “too good” for it. How is Tom influenced by Literature? I think I found the page that the book states the answer to that question, but I still can’t figure it out. I think Aunt Sally was being described as a Strict person but I’m not sure if I misunderstood it. I think it was important when Tom said he thought that Jim is white on the inside. I personally think it was a little funny because I thought, “What if he said that to someone today?” I also saw the actual importance of that statement; it meant that he knows that Jim is a good person despite his looks.

What was the significance of the Boggs and Sherburn? I just assumed that it just represents how people are in that area. It shows how people are a bunch of stupid hicks who get drunk and make very stupid decisions. Does the circus has some sort of importance to it, or is it just a spot where the King and the Duke had their show? What is the importance of Elizabeth getting beat by Jim? I also don’t understand what this reveals about Jim to Huck. How is Huck’s initial reaction to give Jim back to Miss Watson when Huck swore to always help Jim in the earlier chapter. When the King and the Duke sell Jim, doesn’t anyone realize he is the runaway slave people were looking for? I think the show that the King and the Duke is somewhat clever until the third show. I have a feeling that when Huck Finn meets Tom Sawyer in the next chapter, Tom Sawyer will influence Huck Finn’s friendship with Jim.

I think it shows how Mark Twain thought of women because Mrs. Judith Loftus figured out Huck was a boy by how he threaded a needle. I think this shows how Mark Twain thinks how women should be a “perfect housewife” and should just cook, clean, and sow. Also, I think its surprising that there would be a reward for Jim if he is a runaway. I would have thought that they wouldn’t care because they were planning on getting rid of him anyways. I think it is very crafty of Huck and Jim to build a decoy campfire to throw the people off. Why does Huck have a ferry to go back to the robbers to help them? I don’t understand why he would help the robbers even though they don’t deserve it. Did the ferry find it odd that everyone died and no one was actually was there. I thought when I first read about the robbers, Jim and Huck would stop stealing, but they didn’t. I would have thought one of them would find the wrong in what they are doing. I think it is pretty important when Jim tells the story about King Solomon, but I’m not exactly sure why. I think that it has something to do with Huck having no imagination other than plans to help them escape. I don’t really understand why Huck feels bad about helping Jim escape at first. I thought that Huck didn’t really have an idea about racism, so why would he feel bad or guilty. I think it is very important when Jim says Huck is his only friend. I think it is amazing how Huck keeps on lying and making up stories because he is supposed to have no imagination, but he seems to have a lot of imagination when he is dealing with problems.

The first thing that popped out when I read these chapters was when Huck was given a lesson on Heaven and Hell, but they just replaced it with the “bad place.” I thought it was pretty funny when Ms. Watson said that Tom Sawyer would probably go to hell and Huck said that he would go there with him. I’m just wondering if Huck doesn’t really know about Heaven and Hell or is he just making a joke. I didn’t really understand why Huck was so itchy in one of the earlier chapters. I had no idea what the second paragraph was saying on page 4. Tom started to talk about tying up Jim and putting him under the tree. Jim then goes around and exaggerates and says it had to be witches that did this. This told me that Tom was somewhat racist and that Jim is superstitious. I think it was very interesting how the kids made oaths about how they will kill each other’s family’s if anyone said anything. This reminded me of how TV is affecting kids now. Huck’s dad comes back and demands for money which I think is terrible. He even tells Huck to stop going to school, doing religious practices, and takes him to a cabin in the middle of nowhere.
